Kanjō | Gen 2.0 | Carrara Marble
Made to Order Edition
by Roy David
Kanjō—named after the Japanese word for “emotion” or “feeling”—is a contemplative sculpture that distills the subtle language of facial expression into an abstract, tactile form. Inspired by the quiet complexity of human emotion, each piece invites touch, reflection, and personal interpretation.
Designed as an interactive object, Kanjō responds to movement: it rotates, revealing shifting profiles that echo the fluidity of mood. With every turn, the sculpture becomes a mirror for the viewer’s inner state—serene, tense, curious, calm. No two encounters are the same.
This edition of Kanjō is carved from a single block of Italian Carrara marble—a stone with a long and rich history. Quarried in Tuscany for over 2,000 years, Carrara was used by the sculptors of ancient Greece and during the Italian Renaissance. It helped shape the calm faces of Greek gods, the powerful figures of Michelangelo, and the elegant details in buildings across Europe. From old temples to modern architecture, Carrara has remained a symbol of beauty, strength, and timeless design.
The stone’s soft white body and light grey veining give this edition a quiet elegance. Its surface is smoothly polished, allowing light to move gently across its curves and contours. Carrara’s beauty lies in its simplicity—refined, balanced, and lasting.
Kanjō embraces this gentle complexity. It reflects a belief that emotion doesn’t need to be loud to be deeply felt. In its calm presence and classic material, the Carrara edition offers a moment of stillness—a pause for feeling, grounded in form.
Each Kanjō includes a hand-signed certificate of authenticity from Architect and Artist Roy David.
